The philosophy of the estate’s owners and managers is
one of flexibility. It is recognised that some businesses wish
to rent on a short term basis whilst others want the stability
that comes from freehold ownership. Many of the estate’s existing
occupiers have already bought their freeholds and it is likely that others
will follow suit.
With much of the estate having been developed in the immediate post War
era, some of the buildings have reached the end of their economic life
and are ripe for development.
The estate’s owners are implementing their policy of providing
accommodation for small businesses with their plans for redeveloping
at the southern end of the estate. Planning consent has recently been
obtained for three small industrial units of 4,750
ft
²
and on Wallingford Road the former Nirmal Coachworks building after lying
derelict for years is soon to be demolished
and an application is shortly to be made for a development of 5,400 ft
².
